Humble Beginnings

Founded in 1860 in Florence, Italy, by Giovanni Panerai, Officine Panerai was the city’s first watch shop and watchmaking school. It later gained visibility by providing high precision instruments for the Royal Italian Navy and continued in these efforts for the next century. In 1997, Panerai was purchased by the Richemont Group (known then as the Vendome Group). The new owners created a network of select distributors throughout Italy and began selling Panerai watches on a broader scale. Panerai went international in 2001. The original shop in Florence’s Piazza San Giovanni was restyled and now serves as a meeting place for brand collectors and brand enthusiasts.

Today, Panerai operates a modern manufacturing facility in Neuchatel, Switzerland, where some of the world’s most sophisticated watches are made.
