If 2020 has proven anything to us, it is that taking your health and safety seriously should be a top priority. But staying safe can also be stylish. Masks are the newest accessory, and they don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Rightfully Sewn creates jobs and opportunities in Kansas City through the business of fashion. In their normal operations, they offer a seamstress training program for individuals with obstacles to employment and programming to cultivate fashion entrepreneurs of all ages.
For the past four months, they put their unique skills and atelier equipment to work for the community. "When experts moved from calling the coronavirus an epidemic to a pandemic and national PPE supplies were deemed as dire, we converted Rightfully Sewn's operations to sewing fabric masks. We have donated over 40,000 masks to 32 entities thus far, including hospitals large and small, other nonprofits, and groups organizing social protests," said Jennifer Lapka, Founder and President of Rightfully Sewn. "This would not have been possible without the amazing support of our donors, sponsors, and foundation funders."
Rightfully Sewn is now selling thoughtful, beautiful, ethical masks to the public. Made from fabric made of recycled plastic bottles and lined with, their Fashion Masks feature bendable nose pieces and soft, adjustable ear loops.
