Hanukkah Gifting and Traditions

Hanukkah is quickly approaching. This year the holiday begins in the evening on Thursday, December 10th and concludes Friday night, December 18th. Traditionally, Hanukkah has been considered a “minor” festival. However, today it is one of the most beloved Jewish holidays, full of light, joy, and family celebration.

Referred to as "The Festival of Lights", the Hanukkah Menorah is symbolic to this holiday: a candelabrum including eight lights in a row with a ninth separated in height or spacing from the rest (the shamash), which is used to light the other candles. It dates back to when the temple was rededicated by Maccabee, which included relighting the menorahs. The soldiers only had enough oil to light the menorah for a single night. However, the story goes that the little bit of oil lasted for eight full nights. And so - the Miracle of Hanukkah and the eight nights of celebration. These nights are meant to remind us of the holiness of the holiday and the importance of friends, family and illuminating the goodness in all our lives.

For most of Hanukkah’s existence, it was not a major gift-giving holiday, and few people would ever expect eight nights of lavish presents (though a girl can always dream!). Hanukkah is about spending time with your family and passing on traditions from one generation to the next. You can easily add gifts into your nightly festivities to create lasting family memories. So, just in case you go the gift-giving route, we’ve rounded up some beautiful ideas.

Lagos beaded bracelets are a wonderful gift for adding a splash of color and style to a loved one's jewelry collection. We especially love the blue lapis version of the bracelet. Lapis is actually one of the oldest opaque gemstones in history, dating back more than 6,500 years. This deep blue stone often includes tiny flecks of mica, like a night sky full of stars.

Sapphires are believed to promote wisdom, accurate thinking, and spiritual truth. The sapphire's deep blue, sparkling hue has been cherished since ancient times. Wearing a sapphire gifted by a loved one signifies that the bond will be everlasting, and the partners will have a deep attachment for each other. That's why we recommend these gorgeous sapphire earrings for the one you love!

For those who love a bold gold look, this bracelet from Roberto Coin is the perfect statement piece. Jewelry from Roberto Coin is inspired by nature, imagination and the culture of Italy. The embedded ruby in each piece is worn against the skin and is meant to bring the wearer health and happiness.

If you have been thinking about popping the question, there is no time like the holidays. Surrounded by family and loved ones, you're sure to create a lasting memory! We love this three-stone engagement ring by Rahaminov because the stones represent a couple's past, present and future. When you propose with a three stone engagement ring, you can reflect with your partner on the love you have shared, the love you share now, and the unique love you will always have for one another.

No matter how you decide to celebrate Hanukkah this year, TIVOL has got you covered. From all of us, we are wishing you and yours a magical holiday season.
